Benefit Fund of McKenzie Health Launches “Flock Against Cancer” Fundraiser to Support Patients
WATFORD CITY, N.D. —Get ready for a pink invasion with a purpose.
The Benefit Fund of McKenzie Health is launching Flock Against Cancer, a new community fundraiser that brings a little fun to local yards and storefronts while raising money to support patients with cancer receiving care close to home.
Through the program, the Benefit Fund’s volunteer “Flock Wranglers” will secretly deliver a flock of 20 to 25 bright pink plastic flamingos to homes and businesses within 10 miles of McKenzie Health Hospital. The flock will remain in place for 12 to 36 hours before migrating to its next destination.
Whether it’s a surprise for a friend, a birthday gift, a retirement celebration or a way for a business to show its support, Flock Against Cancer offers a unique way to make someone smile while making a difference for local families affected by cancer.
“Flock Against Cancer is a fun way for our community to come together around something that matters,” said Lynn Welker-Fevold, president of the Benefit Fund of McKenzie Health. “Cancer affects so many of our friends, neighbors and families. This gives people an opportunity to bring a little joy to someone’s day while helping provide meaningful support to patients right here at home.”
Every dollar raised through Flock Against Cancer directly supports McKenzie Health’s Oncology Patient Support Items and cancer care initiatives, helping provide comfort, warmth and dignity to community members navigating cancer treatment.
Choose Your Flock
Community members can choose from several flocking options:
- Standard Flock — $125: A surprise flock of 20–25 flamingos with a custom yard sign.
- VIP Guaranteed Date Flock — $250: Choose the exact calendar day for the flock to arrive.
- Secret Agent Flock — $200: Send a flock anonymously with a mystery note.
- VIP Secret Agent Flock — $300: Combine a guaranteed delivery date with complete sender confidentiality.
- Mega Corporate Stampede — $350: Send 40 or more flamingos to take over a local business storefront, including a large partner sign and social media recognition.
- Block the Flock Insurance — $100: Residential properties can purchase protection from being flocked during the season while still supporting the cause.
Deliveries are limited to addresses within 10 miles of McKenzie Health Hospital. Flamingos are placed only on front lawns visible from the street, and the Benefit Fund’s flocking team will promptly remove the flock if a recipient does not wish to host the birds.
The fundraiser is designed to bring some lighthearted fun to the community while supporting an important need.
“Cancer treatment can be an incredibly difficult journey,” said Randy Quale, board chairman for the Benefit Fund of McKenzie Health. “Our hope is that Flock Against Cancer helps remind patients and families that their community is behind them—and that support can come in many forms, even a yard full of pink flamingos.”
