DAISY Award Winner Recognized at McKenzie Health – Chantal Bane, RN – Labor & Delivery
Watford City—Chantal Bane, RN, of the McKenzie Health Labor & Delivery team was honored today with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Thirty nominations were received for this selection cycle. This recognition is celebrated twice a year – May and December.
The nomination submitted about Chantal read: “To a wonderful Nurse Chantal – you are a super-duper nurse! I want to take this moment to thank you for your kindness, knowledge, wisdom, and support, for your help, time, and care. And a big thank you for all your advice and always being there. You are always patient and gentle with us, and our baby enjoyed having you here helping all of us. Saying ‘thank you’ doesn’t feel like enough. I really enjoyed your care and attention. Thank you so much for being a caring nurse. You are there for the smiles and tears and to share the joy. You helped me position myself for feeding my little baby. You see us when we are exhausted and keep reminding me that it’s going to get better. Thank you for all you did for us during after birth. Your guidance, care, and compassion helped more than you know. We will always remember what you did for us. You hold a special place in our hearts. A big thanks to all the nurses on the team for their care, support, patience, and hard work. You are all great!”
Ellen Augustine – RN, Interim Obstetrics Manager, said, “Chantal exemplifies the type of nurse that has an unwavering dedication not only to her moms and babies, but to the department and the hospital. I appreciate her nurturing hands and heart. She not only tends to the needs of her patients but also uplifts her co-workers, shares her knowledge, and fosters a culture of compassion and unity within our team.”
Pete Edis, CEO of McKenzie Health, added, “One of the many highlights of being CEO is having the opportunity to recognize our dedicated and talented employees. Chantal is an excellent RN and asset to our team. She brings a spark to the Labor & Delivery Unit for moms, infants, and families. Congratulations to Chantal for her outstanding contributions to McKenzie Health and most importantly, to the people that depend on rural healthcare.”

About the DAISY Award:
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, Doctor of Humane Letters (h.c) and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at McKenzie Health are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
