About the Radiology Department

Radiology services at McKenzie Health are provided by North Dakota licensed and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registered technologists. All radiographic images are read by Sanford Health radiologists in Bismarck, ND, through our mutual imaging systems. Brand new equipment was installed at the opening of our new facility in 2018.

Health Services We Provide

MRI

Utilizes magnetic fields to diagnose common illnesses and injuries

Computer Tomography (CT)

We perform low-dose CT lung screenings, follow-up scans for cancer patients, pre-operative orthopedic protocols, and trauma series.

3D Mammography

We perform 3D Hologic mammograms, screenings, and diagnostic breast exams

Ultrasound

Our ultrasound is available for a variety of needs including soft tissue, obstetric, gynecology, vascular, breast, prostate, and abdominal exams.

Digital X-Ray

We provide a variety of general x-ray exams for urgent care, emergent care, walk-in appointments, chiropractic care, and orthopedic patients. 

Echocardiograms

An imaging test that uses ultrasound to monitor the heart.

DEXASCANS

Bone Density exams are available for those with osteoporosis, underlying conditions, and pre-operative exams.

What services do you provide in town?

Visit us for these: CT, MRI, Echocardiograms, Ultrasound/OB, Dexascan, and Mammograms.

We can take orders from your providers for all of these. The orders can be faxed or received through our EMR network of providers. Our business professionals work with your insurance to make sure your services are covered for your convenience or provide financial plans to help you get the care you need.

What is an Ultrasound?

Our ultrasound is available for a variety of needs including, soft tissue, obstetrics, gynecology, vascular, breast, and abdominal ultrasounds. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to image various areas of the body without radiation. It is able to capture structural movement in real time. Ultrasound is commonly used to view the body in order to evaluate symptoms such as pain, swelling, or infection.

Can you share these with other providers and specialists out of town?

We can provide CDs or DVDs of your imaging as well as digitally share your radiology history with a wide network of outside providers.

What is an ECHO and when can I get one?

Echos, or echocardiograms, are ultrasounds of the heart used to diagnose problems with the valves or chambers of your heart and to evaluate if heart problems are the cause of symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain.

Echocardiograms are available every Thursday.

These are performed by a specialized ultrasound technologist and read by Sanford Health cardiologists in Bismarck, ND.

What is a DEXA Exam?

Bone density exams are available for those with osteoporosis, underlying conditions, and pre-operative exams as recommended by your provider. It is quick, easy and painless. It uses a low dose of radiation to measure the amount of calcium stored in your bones. This information is used to determine your risk of bone fracture.

What is CT used for in Medical Imaging?

We can do almost any CT scan your provider might need! From low dose screening for lung cancer, to any type of chest or abdomen pain- we are using CT after hours for ER visits, kidney stones, various blood clots/ vessel work and also routine follow up scans for post operative or cancer staging and after care. CT is used for headaches, urgent strokes and sinus issues.

Can I get pre-op and post-op x-rays done at McKenzie Health?

YES!

We provide x-ray services to pre-op, surgical, and post-op patients as needed. Our C-arm is in full force three days a week assisting Dr. Joshi with hip replacements, knee replacements, closed reductions, open reductions, internal fixations and joint injections as needed.

What are Digital X-Rays?

We provide a variety of general x-ray exams for urgent care, emergent care, walk-in appointments, chiropractic care, and orthopedic patients. Dr. Joshi is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon who we are happy to assist with our exceptional imaging along with orthopedic doctor, Dr. Tomjack.

We work to get you in quickly, same day if necessary, to meet your needs!

What is an MRI used for and who can get an MRI at McKenzie Health?

An MRI is Magnetic Resonance Imaging and it utilizes magnetic fields to diagnose common illnesses and injuries such as soft tissue abnormalities, tumors, strokes, torn ligaments, and bulging disks. From orthopedic injuries such as ankles, knees, wrists, and shoulders, to back pain and neurologic symptoms, our MRI is available for many procedures as your provider sees fit.

Who interprets these exams?

Our contract is with the Sanford network for fast, accurate interpretations.
